Rules and regulations

  1. Deadline for applications : 1st March 2008.
  2. Programme must be performed by heart
  3. Programme of each competitor should consist only of solo pieces (without any other instruments or accompaniment)
  4. Each competitor should submit to the secretary of competition three copies of their programme on the day of application
  5. No repeats in the programme
  6. Application fee :
       40Euros for the Junior Category
       50Euros for the Senior Category
       50Euros for the Professional Category
  7. The Competition is part of the International Harp Festival, which will include concerts and master classes of renowned harpists (past guests include Jana Boushkova, Naoko Yoshino, Ana Levina, Ivan Ion Roncea, E. Fontaine Binoche, Susan Mildonian, Park Stickney, Catrin Finch, Patrizia Tassini etc)
  8. The International Jury consists of Festival performers.
  9. All information related to competition awards will be announced shortly.

En Jang‘The performance was splendid and cast a powerful spell’ (New York Concert Review). Known for her bold and personal interpretations as well as her commitment to the promotion and pedagogy of the harp, Ann Yeung has established herself as one of the foremost harpists of her generation. Winner of numerous international and national competitions including top prizes in the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition (France) and the Nippon Harp Competition (Japan), her musical career was launched when she became the only person to win First Prize in the two highest divisions of the American Harp Society’s national competition at the age of seventeen (USA). Dedicated to the expansion of the harp’s repertoire, she premiered her transcription of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations at Carnegie Hall as a winner of Artists International and has given numerous world premiere performances, most recently of interactive multi-media works for harp.  She has given master classes throughout the US and abroad, most recently in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Her students include national First Prize winners and the innovative and edgy ensemble, The HarpCore 4. She is Editor of the World Harp Congress Review since 2002, and her articles have been published in journals in France and the US. She received her Doctor of Music and Artist Diploma from Indiana University where she studied with Susann McDonald.  Currently, she is the harp professor and Chair of the String Division at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she is principal harpist of the Sinfonia da Camera and conducts an annual Summer Harp Class at Illinois (June 5-7, 2008).

Sioned WILLIAMS

Williams Since 1990 Sioned has been Principal Harpist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra working with the leading conductors and composers of the day. She combines this with recitals, broadcasting, recording, researching and teaching. Highly praised for her innovative solo recitals worldwide, Sioned constantly expands her repertoire by researching and editing inaccessible music, and premiering new works. Her imaginative approach to recitals creates performances of unique flair and individuality.
Sioned has an enviable concerto repertoire of all periods including Amir Tafreshipour's 'A Persian Reflection', commissioned by the BBCSO in 2006. Renowned for working with the most prestigious British choirs, most notably performing Britten's 'A Ceremony of Carols', recent partnerships have been with Tenebrae, King?s College Cambridge, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Cathedral, Winchester Quiristers, Cantamus and others.
In duo recitals, she has partnered William Bennett, Michael Chance, Martyn Hill, Steven Isserlis, Neil Mackie, Lisa Milne, Aurele Nicolet, Mark Padmore, Andrew Watts and Roderick Williams. Many of Sioned's commercial recordings on major labels have won international awards and apart from solo works, she has partnered James Galway, Lisa Milne, A. Rolfe-Johnson, Frederica von Stade, The BBC Singers, The BBCSO Chorus, The Holst Singers, The Sixteen, Westminster Cathedral Boys Choir, and Winchester Quiristers on disc.

Nathalie CHATELAIN

ChatelanBorn in Geneva, began to study the harp at the age of eleven in Catherine Eisenhoffer’s class at the Geneva Conservatoire de Musique.
She entered the Lausanne Conservatoire in 1984 where she obtained a Teaching degree in 1986, the “Virtuosité” first Prize in 1988 and a “Licence de Concert” (Performing Arts degree) in Chantal Mathieu’s class, in 1990.
She participated in master classes given by Nicanor Zabaleta, Germaine Lorenzini, Jacqueline Borot and Marielle Nordmann.
In 1989 Nathalie Chatelain was the winner of the Maurice Sandoz Prize as well as the scholarship granted to young performers by the Radio Suisse Romande. From 1989 to 1992 she was the recipient of the grant given by the Fédération des Coopératives Migros. In 1998 she won the second Prize at the TIM (International Music Competition) in Rome.
She has performed both as a soloist as well as with chamber music groups in many festivals: Journées de la Harpe in Arles, European Symposium in Amsterdam, the Harp Festival in Avesnois (France), Festival Amadeus in Geneva, Festival of the Château de Bourglinster in Luxemburg, International Festival of Music in New Caledonia, Purdue Festival in Indiana (USA), World Harp Congress in Prague, World Harp Congress in Geneva, European Harp Symposium in Lyon, Festival of Chamber Music in Montréal and Ottawa, World Harp Congress in Dublin, Festival Agricola in Poland, European Symposium in Cardiff. She was invited in March 2007 in Denver, San Francisco and Seattle (USA) and Sweden to give recitals and masterclass.
In 1988 she was appointed harpist in the Lausanne Sinfonietta orchestra and substitute harpist in the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
In addition to her solo career, Nathalie Chatelain dedicates part of her time to teaching. She taught at the Bern Conservatoire for 10 years (from 1991 to 2001). She organizes summer master classes (Estivarp) in Switzerland since 1991.
Nathalie Chatelain also performs in duo with various instruments, particularly flute and cello, as well as with another harp. She is a member of the Swiss harp quartet “Harpège”, which she founded in 1990 with three other harpists, as well the quartet “Appassionata de Genève”, composed of the pan flute, violin and cello. However, her main interest lies in the harp solo repertoire.
In 2002 she was a member of the Artistic Committee in charge with the organization of the Harp World Congress in Geneva. In 2004 she was a member of the Committee in charge of the organization of the European Harp Symposium in Lyon. Since 2004 she is President of the Swiss Harp Association.
Since 1995 she has been an accredited teacher of the Société Suisse de Pédagogie Musicale (Swiss Music Teacher’s Association) and since 2003 has been affiliated with the AMA (Music for Adults Association).
Nathalie Chatelain’s repertoire covers a wide spectrum of original works as well as transcriptions.
Her repertoire with orchestra includes Mozart’s “Concerto for flute and harp”, Haendel’s “Concerto in B flat major”, Debussy’s “Danses sacrées et profanes”, Ravel’s “Introduction et Allegro”, as well as concertos by Ginastera and Boieldieu, to only name a few. 
Her recordings include the harp solo repertoire as well as various chamber music formations.

Dalibor BERNATOVIĆ

BernatovicDalibor was born in 1963 in Zagreb (Croatia). Today he is living in Maribor, and has Slovenian citiyenship. He studied clarinet and saxophone in Maribor and for several years he was professor at music school in Slovenjska Bistrica. In parallel, Dalibor studied the harp at secondary school in Ljubljana in the class of professor Ruda Ravnik-Kosi. He graduated the harp at University of Zagreb (Croatia) in the class of  professor Marija Milnar.
He was a member of the Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra in Maribor as solo harpist for fiftheen years. For the last five years he has been professor at primary and secondary music schools in Maribor, Velenje and Ljubljana (Slovenia). His pedagogical work and experience is confirmed by success of his students in various competitions across Europe.  
Dalibor regularly performs as soloist, and also as member of chamber, opera and philharmonic orchestras in almost every EU country, as well as Ukraine and Taiwan.
At present Dalibor is occupied with pedagogical work as well as with composing pieces for harp and various chamber ensembles. He is also working as author of first Slovenian textbook for the harp, which will be published in 2009.
Mr.Bernatović is president of Slovenian Association of Harpists for the last ten years, and he is regularly organizing master classes and concerts of famous harpists from all over the world.
