Ann YEUNG www.music.uiuc.edu
<<
‘The performance was splendid and cast a powerful spell’ (New York Concert Review). Known for her bold and personal interpretations as well as her commitment to the promotion and pedagogy of the harp, Ann Yeung has established herself as one of the foremost harpists of her generation. Winner of numerous international and national competitions including top prizes in the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition (France) and the Nippon Harp Competition (Japan), her musical career was launched when she became the only person to win First Prize in the two highest divisions of the American Harp Society’s national competition at the age of seventeen (USA). Dedicated to the expansion of the harp’s repertoire, she premiered her transcription of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations at Carnegie Hall as a winner of Artists International and has given numerous world premiere performances, most recently of interactive multi-media works for harp. She has given master classes throughout the US and abroad, most recently in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Her students include national First Prize winners and the innovative and edgy ensemble, The HarpCore 4. She is Editor of the World Harp Congress Review since 2002, and her articles have been published in journals in France and the US. She received her Doctor of Music and Artist Diploma from Indiana University where she studied with Susann McDonald. Currently, she is the harp professor and Chair of the String Division at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she is principal harpist of the Sinfonia da Camera and conducts an annual Summer Harp Class at Illinois (June 5-7, 2008).
