education
Milena Stanišić was born in Belgrade. After playing piano for several years, she enrolled in Ljiljana Nestorovska’s harp class in the “Mokranjac” Music School. In parallel, she finished the Mathematics gymnasium cum laude. She finished her undergraduate and postgraduate (master of music) studies of harp with professor Milica Barić at the Faculty of Musical Art in Belgrade, and also she has spent two years at the Royal Northern College of Music studying with Mr. Frank Sternefeld.
positions
She holds the position of the principal harpist in the Opera Orchestra of the National Theatre in Belgrade. Besides, she was principal harpist on contract for the Belgrade Philharmonic orchestra (2002-2005) and “Madlenianum” Chamber Opera House (1999-2000). Milena Stanišić was teacher of lever harp in “Slavenski” Music School (2001-2002), and in Junior String Project, Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (1996-1997).

Always focused on further education, she participated actively at the master classes of David Watkins, Elisabeth Fontan-Binoche, Skaila Kanga, Ann Grifits, Jana Bouškova, Anna Levina, Ion Ivan Roncea, Susanna Mildonian, and also on workshops, seminars and lectures.
awards, scholarships and competitions
Milena Stanišić received several important awards and scholarships: The Headley Trust full scholarship for studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (1995-1997), The City of Belgrade October Prize for young talented artists (1994), Republic of Serbia, Ministry of Education scholarship for the best students (1994-1997). Also, she participated in the most important harp competitions (such as the USA International harp competition in Bloomington, Indiana, 2004.), and won several prizes: First place at the »Young Musician of the Year” Competition in Morecambe (England, 1997.), First special prize at the “Petar Konjović” International Music Competition (harp), Belgrade, 1994., Second place at the Harp Competition in Bromley (England, 1997.), Finals of the “Granada prize” Chamber Music Competition, Manchester, 1997., Finals of the International Harp Competition, junior division in Cardiff (Wales, 1991.), First place at the Republic of Serbia National Harp Competition, 1990., Second place at the (former) Yugoslavia National Harp Competition, 1990
concerts
Milena Stanišić performs regularly as a soloist as well as a chamber musician. Together with Ljiljana Nestorovska, Dijana Sretenović and Ivana Pavlović she is a member of the Belgrade Harp Quartet, and with Stana Krstajić – principal flutist of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra she forms Duo Floral. She performed on numerous festivals: BEMUS (Belgrade Music Festival), International Harp Festival in Belgrade, Raška Spiritual Festival, Flute Always and Everywhere Festival, OKTOH (October Music Festival in Kragujevac), “Autumn in Čukarica” Festival, BELEF (Belgrade Summer Festival). In 2002 she performed at the World Harp Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, with concert of music by Serbian composers for the harp quartet.
other activities
Her rich orchestral experience includes occasional performances in nearly all orchestras in Serbia: Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad, “Skovran” String Orchestra, “St. George” String Orchestra, “Camerata Serbica” Orchestra, and “Stanislav Binički” Symphony Orchestra and also, as guest in 16 orchestras, while studying in England (The National Ballet Orchestra, North Strafford shire Symphony Orchestra, Westmoreland Orchestra, Merseyside Youth Orchestra, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia of Leeds, etc).
She was one of the founders of this Association, and today she is a member of Managing board, and also a member of Artistic directory of the International Harp Festival in Belgrade. Besides, she is a member of the Association of Musical Artist in Serbia, World Harp Congress Association, correspondent for the World Harp Congress Journal and Association of Orchestral Artists in Serbia.
